There are far too many name brothers with this Welsh patronymic surname for a One-Name Study.

The Watkins Family History Society was established by Buzz Watkins in 1995 as a focal point
for Watkins genealogy and history from around the world. We’ve mostly just had some fun with
the whole project, but we have also accomplished some of our goals in trying to straighten out
this tangled web of Watkins people.


With our ancient beginnings firmly fixed in Wales, Watkins people have strayed all over the
globe, as can be attested by our contacts, which extends from Taiwan, Norway and Greece, to
more likely locations such as in England, Wales, the United States, Canada and Australia.


But no matter where we’ve ended up, we carry within us a distinct Welshness which must be
worn with a certain degree of pride. Knowing your roots is empowering; knowing them
absolutely gives one a sense of confidence. And belonging to the larger family of Watkins folks
internationally, well, it’s just amazing.
