The people of the Caribbean are not limited only to the Caribbean islands but also all over the world especially in the US, Canada and England. This part of the website provides information on how to trace your Caribbean ancestors.
Barbados sources: "Hotten, John Camden: Original lists of persons ...emigrating to America, 1600-1700. (Omits parishes E, J, L, O, T, P -almost half the population represented in the 1679/80 population returns). "
Powys Lybbe family and ancestors: "Powys-Lybbe Ancestry
And how the Heiresses made the Genealogy easier"

the two reliable web-based
medieval databases, those of Tim Powys-Lybbe and Leo van de Pas,

: "Genealogists can be divided into two groups: Hunters and Gatherers.

Hunters are those who access primary sources and their findings are used by the gatherers.

I have been a gatherer for many years and have collected many books and sources.
In this collection only a small fragment has been extracted from these books and sources, but then this is a work in continuous progress."

Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter: July 2004: "ProQuest Information and Learning and MyFamily.com are partnering to produce a new tool to support genealogy research in libraries.
The Web-based database Ancestry Library Edition will replace and supercede the current library product offering, AncestryPlus, which will be phased out over the coming year. Ancestry Library Edition will be available effective August 30, 2004. ProQuest Information and Learning, a unit of ProQuest Company, creates and publishes databases for libraries and educational institutions worldwide.

Improvements in the new Ancestry Library Edition include a cleaner look to the interface with more user-friendly search options.
Additionally, the new database features genealogical resources not previously available electronically in the library market. Exclusive new content available in Ancestry Library Edition includes the Immigration Collection, which features New York and San Francisco passenger lists and the New York Petitions for Naturalization Index.

Current Ancestry library subscribers will still receive the vast majority of the data currently available in their subscription.
Continuing content includes the U.S. Census Collection ('every name' index dating from 1790 to 1930); U.S. Data Collection (birth, marriage, and death records; World War I draft registration information; and Social Security Death Index); and the U.K. and Ireland Collection (England and Wales Census Images and Indexes; England and Wales Civil Registration Index 1837-present; and England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales Parish and Probate Records, 1500s-1837).

ProQuest will provide site license subscriptions to current Ancestry customers at no additional cost from their current subscription for their Ancestry product."

getting serious about RUNES - not the new world superstition - but cultural heritage
Runes from Bryggen: " a catalogue of runic inscriptions from Bergen and a searchable database of the same inscriptions.
The material was produced at the Norwegian Computing Centre for the Humanities (NCCH) at the University of Bergen.
(The NCCH has now become part of the HIT-Centre at the University of Bergen.)
The project was partly funded by the the Council for Research in the Humanities at the Norwegian Research Council from 1993 to 1995."

Runes in Bergen

2. On the runic material from Bergen: "

Sorting of inscriptions.

After computerising the B-numbers, they were sorted according to the informations from the Liestl Archive. Basis of the sorting was my assessment of the inscriptions. As a starting point, the inscriptions were divided into eight different groups with sub-groups. For example, the group no IV had originally five sub-groups: 1. Longer Old Norse inscription. 2. Other Old Norse inscription. 3. Only an Old Norse personal name. 4. Possible Old Norse inscription. 5. Uncertain Old Norse inscription. In the course of sorting, this net turned out to be far too fine-meshed. so the final sorting turned out as follows:
I.1 no identifiable runes
I.2. capitals
I.3. personal marks
II.1 rune-like characters
II.2 traces of runes
III one or two runes
IV.1. Old Norse inscription, including inscriptions with only one personal name
IV.2 possible Old Norse inscription
V cryptic runes
VI Latin inscription
VII.1 complete fu>ork inscription
VII.2 incomplete fuVII.3 fuVIII inscription that doesn't fit into any of the groups"

German brothel reaps windfall profits from parliament flag

Sat Jul 24, 6:30 PM ET

HALLE, Germany (AFP) - A German brothel owner has sold a flag that used to
flutter above Berlin's Reichstag parliament building for five times the sum
she paid for it and says much of the proceeds will go to charity.

"We have sold it at auction on the Internet for 16,050 euros (19,000
dollars)," said Christiane Schmittroth, director of the X-Carree brothel in
the eastern town of Halle.

Schmittroth, 42, caused uproar when she made the winning bid at an auction
for the flag organised by the cash-strapped Bundestag lower house of
parliament, which sits in the Reichstag.

But shocked German deputies soon discovered that the red, black and gold
banner was to fly proudly from the roof of a brothel.

"It is a scandal for Germany," said one conservative opposition lawmaker.

Now the flag has moved on. "We have now sold it to a gentleman in western
Germany, whose identity we would prefer to keep a secret," said Schmittroth.

She said the price had probably rocketed to 16,000 euros from its purchase
price of just 3,350 euros because of the huge media interest in the scandal.

"As promised the lion's share of the sale will go to local children
suffering from cancer," she said.

In all, the 6.5 by 4.5 metre (21 by 15 foot) flag waved proudly above the
brothel for about three weeks.
