Biography of Margaret Smith - All-Info About Genealogy: "Margaret has been doing amateur genealogy for thirty years. She belongs to two organizations that are dedicated to tracing one's family history. Both have objectives to aid non-members in their searches. On ocassion, she pops in on the meetings of local societies.

However, she gets her skill for lineage research from her anthropological training. The first thing a student is taught is about kinship structures within societies and the different types in various culture groups and sub-culture groups. A sub-culture group would be a group within a group, such as Irish Americans or British citizens of Indian descent. They are called sub-culture groups because their social structure is slightly different than mainstream society. A requirement of study is the tracing of the lineage of a family within a culture group. This could be the Queen of England or your own family.

Education: Margaret Smith is a graduate of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she majored in Anthropology with an emphasis on Cultural Anthropology. Her minor was Political Science/Public Administration. "
