Welcome to Mullers.org: read past reports from the 'Archive' section."

George Müller was born in 1805

The similarities between George Müller's early life and the parable of the Prodigal Son are quite remarkable, a fact not unnoticed by many writers and commentators.

In 1810 George Müller moved with his family from that Prussian village of Kroppenstaedt to nearby Heimersleben, some four miles away. He and his brother received no real parental control and their father, being very generous, gave them plenty of money. They were encouraged to keep records of their spending, but that is where parental discipline and control ended.

George Müller regularly stole money from his father, invariably when collecting debts on his father's behalf by handing over much less than he had collected. His father often had to make up missing money and on one occasion a successfully laid trap caused George Müller to be punished, but he was unrepentant.

George Müller was sent to a classical school at Halberstaedt hoping to become a Lutheran clergyman. Despite being a brilliant pupil he continued his sinful ways. His stealing became more compulsive and on one occasion he managed to retain all but one twelfth of his confirmation fees which his father had given him for confirmation classes.

conversion 1825

George Müller continued his theological studies at Halle University and within two months of his conversion to the Christian faith decided to become a missionary. This decision angered his father so much that he withdrew his son's financial support which left George Müller dependent on God alone.

The greatest obstacle George Müller had to overcome was the acquisition of a passport to attend a missionary training school in London, because he was expected to serve his national service. After much prayer he went through with the signing up process for the Army and following a series of medicals he was discharged from active service for life as being medically unfit. . . . .

George Müller in 1829 made his way to London to train as a missionary to the Jews. After only a short time at the missionary training school he became seriously ill and nearly died. It was whilst recuperating in the Devon town of Teignmouth that George Müller's life was to take another change of direction.

Ask a Librarian in Wales

Ask Cymru: "We have a team of over 50 trained librarians and information professionals who have direct access to the resources of university, public and college libraries throughout Wales. Whatever the subject of your enquiry, our team will come up with an answer or guide you to other sources of information that will help you.

Public, university and college libraries throughout Wales along with the National Library of Wales work together to provide the Ask Cymru service. When you e-mail your question it is automatically routed to one of the participating libraries. Using their skill and experience the librarians will search the resources available to them - electronic and print - to find the answer. They will then send you an e-mail responding to your question within 48 hours.

We welcome questions from schoolchildren and university lecturers; from crossword solvers and research students. Because Ask Cymru is a Welsh service, we are especially equipped to answer questions about Wales and things Welsh. However, our resources cover the whole range of knowledge and we will be pleased to answer questions on any subject."

So, take a look around... use the links above to take you to the types of disasters... or use by location to view catastrophes by state... or try the search box. • Adding a link to view all of an author’s messages.
  • Updating the My Favorites page with category information (to help clear up confusion over which “General” board is which), and a drop-down to view more favorites per page,
  • Displaying the full subject line.

Mary Goble Pay - Hunt Wagon Company

We arrived in Salt Lake City nine o'clock at night the 11th of December 1856.

Three out of four that were living were frozen. My mother was dead in the wagon. Bishop Hardy had us taken to a home in his ward and the brethren and the sisters brought us plenty of food. We had to be careful and not eat to much as it might kill us we were so hungry. Early next morning Brother Brigham Young and a doctor came. The doctor's name was Williams. When Brother Young came in he shook hands with us all. When he saw our condition -- our feet frozen and our mother dead - tears rolled down his cheeks. The doctor amputated my toes using a saw and a butcher knife.

Brigham Young promised me I would not have to have any more of my feet cut off. The sisters were dressing mother for the last time. Oh how did we stand it? That afternoon she was buried. When we had been in Salt Lake a week, one afternoon a knock came at the door. It was Uncle John Wood.
When he met Father he said, "I know it all Bill." Both of them cried. I was glad to see my father cry. Uncle said for him to pack up and we could start right away. That night we got to Centerville. There Aunt Fanny was waiting for us at Brother Garns. We stayed there that night.

The next morning we went to Farmington and stayed there until the following April. My father married again. Instead of my feet getting better they got worse until the following July I went to Dr. Wiseman's to live with them to pay for him to doctor my feet. But it was no use he said he could do no more for me unless I could consent to have them cut off at the ankle. I told him that Brigham Young had promised me. He said all right sit here and rot and I will do nothing more until you come to your senses. One day I sat there crying. My feet were hurting me so - when a little old woman knocked at the door.

She said she had felt some one needed her there for a number of days. When she saw me crying she came and asked what was the matter. I showed her my feet and told her the promise Brother Young had given me. She said, "Yes, and with the help of the Lord we will save them yet." She made a poultice and put on my feet and everyday after the doctor had gone would come and change the poultice. At the end of three months my feet were well.

One day Doctor Wiseman said, "Well, Mary, I must say you have grit. I suppose your feet have rotted to the knee by this time." I said, "Oh, no, my feet are well." He said, "I know better, it could never be." So I took off my stockings and showed him my feet. He said that it was a miracle and wanted me to tell him what I had been doing. I told him to never mind that they were now healed. I have never had to have any more taken from them. The promise of Brigham Young has been fulfilled and the pieces of toe bone have worked out. -

form the Autobiography of Mary Goble Pay.

"handcart company" - Google Search

I was intrigued and got googling after reading the following :-

Google Groups : alt.genealogy
From: Joseph Irvine

Hello!

I am looking for information on Jessamine Elizabeth Routledge who married Francis Martin Pomeroy.

We are direct decendants through this marriage and are trying to verify which handcart company Jessamine came across on.

We have one record listing the Hunt handcart company, one record listing the Martin Handcart company, and another record listing that she came over on the Hunt company but fell behind and joined the Martin handcart company. We want to verify so that if she was ever a member of the Martin company she can be added to the Martin company memorial. Do you have any further information or documentation?

important message from SOG London

THE FREEDOM of INFORMATION COMMISSIONER HAS DECIDED THAT LIMITED ACCESS CAN BE MADE TO INFORMATION FROM THE 1911 CENSUS.

The National Archived released the following press release
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documents/13dec2006.pdf

The Society of Genealogists met with TNA on 13 December and was delighted to
learn that the effect of the decision means that The National Archives must
supply SOME information from the 1911 in response to Freedom of Information
(FOI) requests. Family Historians and other searchers will be able, from 17
January 2007, to pay for searches in the census from the TNA paid research
service at a cost of £45 per address search. Sensitive information will be
redacted (i.e. blacked out) from the census information given to the
recipient.

Note that until the census is fully digitised searches can only be made
using addresses and not surnames.

Hence searches must be made using the
special online census search request forms that will be made available on
TNA’s web site in January.

See the 1911 FAQ
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help/1911census/faq-foi.htm

for more information on making a search request. The Census will not be made
available in microform nor will public access be allowed to the original
returns.

TNA is developing a digitised online 1911service and is speeding up the
process. It hopes that a limited online search facility will be ready in
2009 with some key sensitive information (such as infirmity or mental
condition) withheld until the release of the full census in 2012.

Genealogists will no doubt find the online search facility quicker, cheaper
and easier to use than the paid search requests and will probably wait until
the full index is available in 2009.

Further notes on access to the census are available on TNA’s website
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/1911census/?homepage=news

The Information Commissioners decision is available online at
http://www.ico.gov.uk/tools_and_resources/decision_notices/2006_12.aspx
