This is a free service and an ideal medium for raising the profile of any family history society event.

GENEVA: The GENUKI calendar of GENealogical EVents and Activities

This calendar is being run jointly on behalf of GENUKI and the Federation of Family History Societies. Event organisers are encouraged to check this calendar when picking a date to avoid clashes with other events in the same area. They are also encouraged to submit an entry for this calendar as soon as a date has been booked so that other organisers know about it and can try to avoid it.

In March 2007 the British Library announced major plans to move its historic newspaper collection from Colindale in North London to Boston Spa in Yorkshire by 201

Colindale Newspapers Migration Strategy: "The British Library holds the finest newspaper collection in the world. Over 30,000 people use the national newspaper collection every year.

The British Library announced on Thursday 1 March 2007 major plans to move its historic newspaper collection. Newspapers deteriorate quickly because of the poor quality of the paper they are printed on and there are growing concerns about the fragility of the collection, which is viewed and handled by more than 30,000 people every year. Fifteen per cent of the collection cannot be used by readers because of its poor condition. A further 19% is at high risk, and will soon have to be withdrawn from use.

The British Library is acting to provide readers better access and to preserve it for future generations. Many items we hold do not exist anywhere else."

FFHS - Home Page: "The Federation of family History Societies (FFHS) is an educational charity which exists to represent, advise and support its membership of family history societies and other genealogical organisations world-wide.

Our principal aims are: to co-ordinate and assist the work of societies or other bodies interested in family history, genealogy and heraldry; to foster mutual co-operation and collaborative projects to help researches; and to represent the interests of our members, and family historians"
