The Duke of Beaufort Estates surveyed by John Aram

Mike John has uploaded a list of tenants to the Duke of Beaufort estates in Monmouthshire
in the 1760's taken from volume 2 & 10,
He has volumes 4, 5, 6, 8 & 9 and will be proposing
getting the rest transcribed in the next couple of months.

Also 1841 CENSUS TRANSCRIPTS for Monmouthshire: "Transcribed by Charlotte Cramer and newly added Chaple Hill, Llanwern, Portskewett & Trevethin Barracks"

FreeCEN - UK Census Online Project: "Have YOU ever thought of the benefit of the U.K. Census data being centrally available on ONE database, and being able to trace your ancestors from 1841 to 1891?

This project aims to provide a 'free-to-view' online searchable database of the 19th century UK census returns.

The number of volunteers has grown since its inception in 1999 to 125 in December 2000. It doubled to 250 for June 2001, over 500 in 2003 and currently has 2000+ as of July 2005.

We are constantly looking for new volunteers. We need help with Transcribing and Checking. We transcribe and check from Micro Fiche and from CD's, so you have a choice depending upon which Census year you volunteer to help with. To contact the Coordinator for a County that you are interested in helping with, please look at the Transcription page.

As well as the 1891 Census we are also working on the 1841. 1851, 1861 and 1871 census. We are continually adding new transcriptions. For further details of how we are progressing please look at the following statistics page on http://www.freecen.org.uk/statistics.html

The last update of the FreeCEN database for 2007 was on 28th December.

In all 98500 entries (over 20%) of the 1861 Census for Somerset is now available to search for free on FreeCEN. In addition the 1871 census is beginning to take form with the third Somerset piece published this week. Six 1891 pieces are also available to search.

Ancestry.com Blog

Ancestry.com Blog - » More questions and answers about the Online Family Tree Transition
snipped

Now will you please make a similar announcement about OneWorldTree, and retire that infected dinosaur?

No, not yet, or perhaps not at all. We consider this option all the time and have mixed thoughts and feelings as to what to do with OneWorldTree. For many, many customers, it is a wonderful resource. For some, it is an “infected dinosaur”. Our hope is to improve it in a way that those who value it can continue getting that value in a way that everyone can be content with.

Has Ancestery.com lost all common sense? If this was a contest to see who could upset the most customers in the shortest space of time, Ancestry would surely have won it by a mile.

We totally get it that many of you are bitterly disappointed with this announcement. At the same time we are very, very grateful for those who give feedback, help us track down bugs, offer suggestions for improvement, etc. and who are willing to work with us to make the new system work well for everyone.

We have 3 months to make this work. If it is not going to work for the vast majority of users, we can extend that time. We can be flexible. But we do need to move towards turning off the OFT system. It is old, and we are not willing to maintain two systems. We’re putting all our available efforts into the Ancestry Member Trees system, and will make it the best we can for you.

SERIOUS CHARGE AGAINST A CLERGYMAN.
At Liverpool on Saturday, a man named Arthur Charles Barker (47), described as of Chesterfield House, Birr, King's County, was charged with having attempted to procure a boy of the age of 14 years to commit a criminal offence. Mr Duder, police prosecutor, said the accused was a clergyman in the Church of England, and was admitted into Orders in 1895 in the name of Arthur Charles Barker Jacobson. In 1902 he took out papers of naturalization in the United States, and in 1909, by statutory declaration, he altered his name, dropping the surname Jacobson. As to the details of the case, even he (Mr Duder), with his police court experience, hesitated to tell the magistrates. On the previous evening the accused was watched by two detectives in a picturedrome, and when arrested he attempted to run away.
Prisoner was remanded until Friday.
